June 8, Worship 11:00am!  (11:00 not 10:00)
We will be worshiping with the other two congregations in our facility, Living Water, a mostly Asian college group and the French African Congregation.  We will share communion together; I suspect this will be a powerful experience.  Also, expect a variety of wonderful music, and if you can, bring food for the potluck after worship.
June 22, worship at General Assembly in San Jose.  There will be worship here for those who cannot come, but we would love to take a big group.  You may want to reserve space for one of the GA lunches too.
I also strongly encourage you to make a day or several of the GA.  Monday, Tuesday and Friday will likely be the most exciting.  Monday and Tuesday committees crunch down overtures for presentation on the main floor later in the week.  Usually, the most controversial overtures are saved till last, that is until Friday.  There are also meals throughout the week with great speakers on a wide variety of subjects.  Talk to me, Gail Peterson, or go to the PC (USA) General Assembly website for more info.
"Traveling Mercies" book reading.  I would like to start a small group on Wednesday nights over the early part of summer to read Anne Lamott’s "Traveling Mercies."  Anne comes from a secular humanist intellectual Bay Area family and with grace and humor tells how the Christian faith worked its way into her life.  A great book for the cynical and skeptical.  Talk to Max if you would like to join.

Upcoming significant events

Sunday Forum, next Sunday, June 1

The King James Bible, though rarely heard these days in Sunday worship, remains a classic work of English literature--"the supremely beautiful Bible," as one Biblical scholar puts it. To explore its beauties and analyze its literary qualities, the English literature seminar plans to make "The King James Bible as Literature" the focus of next year's study.

Members of the seminar, led by Virginia Anderson (Ph.D., English), will introduce the subject to the St. John's community at a Sunday Forum on June 1 in the Fireside Room. After a brief description of some earlier translations of the Bible into English, the seminar and the listeners will take a new look at a very famous psalm. Audience participation will be encouraged. The time: roughly 11:30am

Save the date!  Thursday, June 5, when a retirement party for Andy McComb,
retiring as Executive Director of BOCA  --- will be held at a place to be announced.  Glenda will have the information after Tuesday, May 28.  Phone 528-6238.  All are invited and encouraged to come celebrate Andy's contribution and new directions!

June 8 at 11:00am will be a joint worship service including the churches in our midst, Living Waters and Eglise Francaise.  Remember it's an hour later than St. John's customary time!
