The Board of Deacons
The
deacons meet regularly on the second Saturday of the month at 8:30 in
Pastor Max's
office. The office of Deacon, as described in Acts 6, is one of
assisting the pastor in tending
to the needs of the "flock".
The Deacons call on aide the sick and shut-ins, assist with home
communion, deliver plants at Easter
and Christmas, respond to the needs of the congregation where they are
able, and assist the Clerk
of Session in keeping track of the church membership. They also
coordinate pot-luck lunches for
the annual meeting and other church events.
The Deacons also oversee the collection and delivery of food and
clothing, have set up a file of
emergency care cards and have made available green envelopes in the pew
racks for donations
to the Deacon's fund to help carry out St. John's ministry of
assistance to members of the church
and the community and to support camperships for Camp Elmwood and
Westminster Woods.
The Deacons appreciate the many members of the congregation who donate
food, clothing and money
to the Deacon's fund and who serve each other and us in such caring
ways.
