The Meaning of Marriage in our Community

Welcome to St. John's Presbyterian Church! We are delighted that you are considering St. John's as a place to celebrate your Wedding. We feel our sanctuary is a sacred place that invokes the blessing and love of the Holy Spirit. We are a progressive Christian community, affirming of individuals and families of all shapes and sizes, with a strong tradition of a biblical commitment to justice and peace. Our motivation and identity are birthed and sustained primarily through meeting the presence of God in worship.

Marriage is a gift God has given to humankind for the well being of the family. Marriage is also a civil contract between a couple. The presiding minister usually plays a dual role of civil servant and Spirit facilitator. For Christians, marriage is a spiritual commitment of life-long love between two people, blessed by God and witnessed by family and congregation.
This space you will be using gives testimony to the commitment and love of the members of St. John’s to their relationship with the Spirit of all life and the community of Christians we call the Church.

Our space is intended for use by those who acknowledge the Divine Spirit of life through faith. Within this community, we pray for God’s blessing upon your life and marriage, and leave with you an open invitation to join us in worship.

We pray that each of our relationships may embody love and integrity, shown through the relationship God has with human beings. Perhaps most of all, we affirm the grace and forgiveness offered by God that empowers us to love one another despite our imperfections and fallibility.

We pray that your marriage, wherever the ceremony may be held, may have this great blessing of grace. May your relationship reflect and connect you with the beauty and love that is the living core of all life
Preparation and Regulations
Weddings, rehearsals and receptions are arranged through the Church office. Specific arrangements will be determined by St. John’s Wedding Coordinator* and the Wedding couple.

St. John’s clergy is available for ceremonies where at least one of the two people to be married is Christian. Ceremonies officiated by other clergy and non-Christian ceremonies must be approved by St. John’s.

You may choose your own Organist and Pianist, or our Director of Music**, to accompany your musical ensembles. If you wish to bring your own Organist or Pianist, permission must be obtained from the Director of Music. There is a $100 fee for the use of the organ or piano.

Paper aisle runners (no cloth or plastic) are permitted from the foot of the steps to the back of the pews. The distance is 50 feet. Runners must be secured with Gafter's tape, or pins, along the edges to prevent from buckling.

Flower arrangements are to be arranged by the Wedding Party. The Church has two wrought iron candelabras and flower stands for use. Flowers may be left in the Church after the wedding service.

Flower petals and confetti are not permitted. Birdseed may be thrown outside. Please use pew clips to fasten adornments to the pews. There are twelve Pew rows. Candles brought into the Sanctuary must be dripless. Our candlebras require 14 candles.

No flash photography or extra lighting is to be used during the Wedding service. This equipment may be used as the couple enters the church building, and as the couple leaves the chancel and exit from the Sanctuary.

Please present the marriage certificate to the officiating minister at the rehearsal. The minister will return the signed marriage certificate after the service.

Ushers should arrive at least 45 minutes prior to the Wedding service. If Ushers are standing with the Wedding party, remember to designate others to seat late arrivals.

St. John’s 55-car parking garage is used by all of the Center’s users. Guaranteed parking is available at a cost of $5 per car per day. During the hours of 7 am to 7 pm, Monday through Saturday, the Coordinator will request that the neighborhood's 2-hour parking restrictions not be enforced around the Church during the Wedding and Reception. However, this cooperation cannot be guaranteed.

The Reservation Deposit is unrefundable and will not be returned for cancellations. Overtime, damage and special cleaning charges will be billed to your account and deducted from the Security Deposit. The Security Deposit will be returned to you within 2 weeks after the Wedding.
